Wildlife Ambulance Update

AES supports a project in Way Kambas National Park, located in southern Sumatra, to deploy GPS collars on wild elephants.

The Elephant Response Unit (ERU) teams monitor these collared elephants to ensure they stay within the National Park and do not wander into nearby agricultural fields. The data collected from the collars helps field staff better track elephant movements within the park. With this information, the ERU teams work to keep both human and elephant populations safe.

In addition, the ERU teams patrol the area to detect illegal activities, such as illegal snares, which helps protect critically endangered wildlife, including Sumatran tigers and elephants.

We are grateful for the efforts of the field staff at Way Kambas National Park and our in-country partner, Komunitas Untuk Hutan Sumatera, whose dedication supports the conservation of critically endangered Sumatran wildlife.
