Ongoing training for future Veterinarians in Sumatra

Through our veterinary field partner, the Wildlife Ambulance from the Syiah Kuala University Veterinary Faculty in Aceh, we support elephant and wildlife health care in Sumatra.

Recently a two-day seminar on elephant health care was conducted for veterinary students in their clinical internship. During the first day, classroom lectures were conducted, followed by practical demonstrations and training on the second day with patrol elephants at the Saree Elephant Conservation Center (ECC) in Aceh Besar Regency. The main subjects taught were the following:
· Safety precautions when working with elephants
· Clinical examination in elephants
· Drug administration and sample collection in elephants
· Foot care in elephants
Twenty-two final year students in their clinical internships participated in this course.
